Speed camera numbers grow

The French speed camera has now celebrated 20 years in operation & by the end of 2023, approximately 300 old speed cameras will have been scrapped but in their place 500 decoy camera turrets & over a 1,000 real cameras will be installed, including 100 double direction radars.

However, the great novelty of 2023 is the commissioning of the first 200 urban speed cameras, a compact and discreet version of the larger turret cameras, which will regularly alternate in 700 urban locations, meaning that 500 of these mini turrets will be decoy radars.

The first major cities to have these urban radars will be:

• Montbeliard/Belfort

• Marseilles

• Toulouse

• Montpellier

• Lyons

Meanwhile, the privatization of radar cars continues & 400 new radar cars will be employed in the last four regions of France that have so far not used them, namely:

• Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes

• Ile-de-France

• Occitania

• Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur

The installation of all these cars will not be completed until the end of 2024.
