24/7, 365 days/ year Campsites ?

One of the most annoying things about French campsites is the fact that the vast majority are only open during the summer months whilst remaining closed in Spring & Autumn when a stay is often more pleasant than during the heat of July & August. Now a French company has come up with a concept that will allow campsites to offer pitches 24/7, all year round.

The company 'Welcome Sécurité & Services' has opened its first location where a campsite has converted a part of its property to an automatic 24/7 camping. The campsite Payolle in Campan, Hautes-Pyrenees (65) has installed an automatic barrier allowing access to 40 hard standing pitches (all with ehu’s) as well as an automated toilet block. This campsite has acted as a pilot site to test the idea, having been operating since 2019 with an occupancy of over 50% & an approval rating from motorhome owners of 4.7 out of 5.

The concept works as follows:

Upon arrival at the site a pitch is selected on a screen according to the size of the motorhome (all pitches are 6m wide). Electricity can be added as an option & the fee is then paid by credit card or cash at the terminal which then issues an access code. Unlike CampingCarPark aires, no membership card or subscription is required.

Having proved that their idea works, the company is now looking for more campsites to convert a part of their site to this new concept. Rates for the campsite in Campan start at 12€/ night not including electric or tourism tax.
