The award of ‘Plus Beaux Villages de France’, the ‘Most Beautiful Villages in France’ has been given to over 150 villages throughout France where each village has fewer than 2,000 inhabitants & has a ‘rich natural heritage’ with at least 2 listed monuments. Whilst the title of ‘Petites Cités de Caractère de France’ - ‘Small Towns of Character’ is awarded to small municipalities boasting a high-quality architectural heritage & who undertake to preserve this heritage.
The ‘Most Beautiful Villages & Towns in France by Motorhome' Guide covers the 19 former regions of France visiting the listed Villages & Towns in these regions as well as UNESCO World Heritage sites, a total of 275 locations. These visits having been researched and planned for a motorhome, with suggested stopovers at each location. Unfortunately the majority of campsites in France tend to open only during the summer months, with some of the Municipal campsites only opening in July and August. This would tend to restrict the timing of these visits, so they have primarily been planned using all-year-round aires as stopover places – with alternative campsites suggested, if preferred (and if they are open). As some ‘motorhomers’ may never have stayed at an Aire de Services, there is a chapter explaining their facilities and how to use them.
The guidebook has detailed descriptions of each location visited together with tourist information, location maps, photos & GPS coordinates. Full information is given on each aire visited as well as a review, facilities, prices, opening times as well as alternative nearby campsites. The book also includes details of aires (not on, but) near to the motorway junctions that can be used as a stopover enroute to your destination.

'Fabulous book with lots of information. We love visiting the beautiful historic villages in France and this gives an overview of what to expect from each one, along with the suggested best option of a motorhome aire and campsite. It's the sort of book you pick up find the relevant bit you are interested in and put down and not necessarily read from cover to cover. Already have got several places I want to visit - there is lots of inspiration.
Another really useful section which I hadn't realised when purchasing is suggested camping car aires which are near motorway (autoroute) junctions. Hopefully it will encourage people to leave the motorway for a Km or two and find a recommended place to safely overnight rather than take the risk of overnighting on motorway service areas.
Lots of research has gone into producing this book and I shall certainly be taking it with us on our forthcoming trip to France.' Caroline T.
